FOUNDERS STORY
Building Aviation Solutions for Zambia, by Zambians
Robert Stacey's journey into aviation started on a farm in Mkushi. He trained as a professional pilot and gained extensive practical experience flying across Africa for various operators, gaining an understanding of how aviation functions in different nations. Instead of pursuing a career with a major international airline, he decided to return home, determined to grow Zambian aviation. He always believed that Zambians should own, manage, and run the aviation businesses that help the country grow.
The idea for Niner Juliet Logistics came when he helped a friend import an aircraft and saw for himself how complicated the process was. The permits, customs, stakeholder engagement, and compliance are overwhelming and this was the niche into which he stepped. He started the company in 2020, and it grew rapidly, expanding from clearances and permits into importation support, consultancy, operational coordination, and ground services.
A major turning point came when NineJL was selected as the trusted partner for the Government's nationwide geological survey, supporting the entire operation. Another proud moment was coordinating Zambia's first-ever rhino rescue, in collaboration with the Frankfurt Zoological Society, the Department of National Parks and Wildlife and the Zambian Air Force.
Today, the company is recognised as a leading aviation logistics and consultancy partner, serving clients across mining, exploration, conservation, tourism, government, and commercial aviation.
Robert serves on the boards of Wildlife Crime Prevention and the Tourism Council of Zambia, reflecting his belief that successful companies owe something to the country. He also mentors aspiring pilots and aviation specialists, many of whom have gone on to build careers with airlines & aviation organisations in Zambia and abroad.
